Sharing Your Faith
If you saw someone drowning wouldn't you toss
them a life preserver or do whatever you could to save them?
What about someone who hasn't accepted Christ? They are drowning
in their sin. Unless they get to know the saving grace of Jesus
Christ, they are doomed. Shouldn't we do whatever we can to save
the lost? Isn't our greatest calling as Christians is to rescue
the perishing? We can do this by sharing our faith with our
family, friends, and people we meet in life's journey.
To be an effective witness for Christ you
must first know your subject. How can you explain to others the
salvation offered through Jesus Christ unless you have a thorough
understanding of it yourself? The Bible is the prime resource in
getting to know Jesus. There are many good books out there which
can supplement the Bible. Many churches offer workshops & classes
on witnessing. In addition there are many websites that can assist
you. Be sure to check out

Christianity

To be a credible witness you must
practice what you teach. Words without corresponding actions are
just a bunch of hot air. If you say you love Jesus, but your life
doesn't show it then you will turn more people off than turn them
towards Jesus.
Not everyone you witness to will accept
Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Keep the following in mind:
you may be planting seeds, the gospel of Jesus Christ. First, the
seed must be planted in fertile soil. Next rain or moisture must
be added. Time must pass for the seed to germinate. Sunshine
and rain are necessary for the plant to grow. Then eventually the
seed bears fruit. You may be the planter, someone else may be the
one who waters. You may never see the seed produce fruit, but if
you don't plant it, then it will never grow and produce fruit.
For those you witness to who don't
respond or respond negatively, don't keep witnessing to them with words.
Respect other peoples wishes or opinions. If you don't, you may
turn them even more against Jesus. Witness to them by your
actions.
Don't get discouraged if everyone doesn't
respond to Christ's message. Keep in mind that everyone Jesus
witnessed to didn't accepted him even when they heard him in person and
saw the miracles he performed. So don't expect everyone to accept
him when you witness to them.
The websites & resources listed below can
help make you a more effective witness for Christ and share your faith
with others. Be sure to "Witness at all times; if necessary use
words" (St. Francis of Assisi). Remember: "For
God so loved the word, he gave his only son so that whoever believes in
him will not perish, but have eternal life", John 3:16.
